Western Sydney’s largest fun run NAB RunWest will return on Sunday 29 March 2020, with registrations for the major community event opening today. The legacy event will see thousands of people of all ages, abilities and fitness levels come together to run, jog or walk through the iconic Western Sydney course in support of some incredible charities.
The 12km Fun Run starts at Sydney Motorsport Park, before participants enjoy one of the most unique fun run experiences ever – running through the new Sydney Zoo – with lions, tigers and plenty of cute and cuddly animals cheering them on. The course flows through Sydney’s biggest backyard, the Western Sydney Parklands, before reaching the finish festival located at West HQ.
The NAB RunWest 4km Family Fun Run, starts at Blacktown International Sportspark where participants can be stage-front for the pre-run entertainment with celebrities and entertainers, with plenty of prizes and giveaways. The family friendly event start zone also offers participants the chance to try their luck at the activations from Western Sydney’s premier sports teams and event sponsors such as NAB, WSFM and more just near the start line.
The 12km and 4km events finish at the same finish line, right outside West HQ, where participants will receive their NAB RunWest finisher’s medal before making their way into the NAB RunWest Finish Festival at West HQ. There, competitors will enjoy incredible food, hours of live entertainment on the main stage, partner activations, appearances from celebrities and sports stars, cultural performances, competitions, giveaways and more.
“NAB RunWest is an event for the whole community, bringing local Western Sydney residents, schools, community groups, friends and family members all together to do something fun and active, with the opportunity to also fundraise for important causes,” said Anna Fitzgerald, Executive General Manager of NAB RunWest.
“The inaugural NAB RunWest, held on March 31, 2019, was Australia’s largest ever inaugural fun run, attracting more than 7,500 registrations and delivering an extraordinary community event for Western Sydney. The social impact of NAB RunWest is significant with more than 100 cultures participating and more than 80% of participants not meeting minimum physical activity guidelines.
“As an event we are committed to changing the way the diverse cultures and people of Western Sydney move, eat and prioritise a healthy lifestyle, creating a positive, lasting legacy for generations to come. We continue to pursue this vision for the 2020 event. This year our overarching theme is ‘together’, where we aim to bring people from all backgrounds, fitness levels and ages together on Sunday March 29, 2020 for a true celebration of community.”
West HQ is proud to be supporting the 2nd annual NAB RunWest as a founding partner and will host the post-race celebrations.
“NAB RunWest 2019 was an unforgettable experience for Western Sydney, so it’s no surprise how popular this event has quickly become. It caters for all and welcomes the whole neighbourhood to join the fun and experience the thrill of crossing the finish line, which in 2020 will be nestled between West HQ and our brand-new Sydney Coliseum Theatre,” said West HQ CEO Richard Errington.
“The end of the run and walk is just the start of the day. The free-entry finish line festival will offer live music, entertainment for the whole family, and an abundance of food options – all from West HQ’s amazing food brands,” concluded Errington.
NAB is proud to be the naming rights partner of NAB RunWest and to be supporting the community through Western Sydney’s biggest community fun run.
Mike Baird, NAB’s Chief Customer Officer said,“The team at NAB are delighted to be sponsoring the RunWest event again this year. If you have a passion for Western Sydney, I encourage you to get involved – running through the new Sydney Zoo as part of a crowd will be an amazing experience.”
Blacktown City Council is a major sponsor and supporter of NAB RunWest 2020 and looks forward to seeing record numbers of the community coming together in support of charity.
“NAB RunWest is a great way of bringing together the entire community in a fun and healthy environment,” said Blacktown City Mayor Tony Bleasdale OAM.
“NAB RunWest showcases to the world some of the major attractions in Blacktown City including Sydney Motorsport Park, Sydney Zoo, Western Sydney Parklands and the Blacktown International Sportspark. Not only does this event promote a healthy lifestyle but it also raises thousands of dollars for charity,” said Mayor Bleasdale.
“We are excited to see thousands of locals walk, jog and run among the lions, organ-utans, cheetahs, zebras, chimpanzees, baboons and hyenas who call the new Sydney Zoo home,” said Jake Burgess, Sydney Zoo General Manager.
Participants can choose to fundraise for one of the NAB RunWest feature charities including CanToo Foundation, the John Maclean Foundation, Better Foundation, Ronald McDonald House Charities Greater Western Sydney and Steve Waugh Foundation.
The 2020 NAB RunWest Community Challenge will also see eligible community groups register a team for a chance to win a share of $6,000 prize money. Any team of five participants or more will also see each participant receive a $5 discount on their registration fee.
