Due to an overwhelming response from parkrunners, with over 750 people already registering to participate in RunWest, organisers will fulfil their promise to develop a new parkrun for every 250 individuals who sign up for the 12Km event next March.
The parkrun Challenge aims to increase participation and awareness of parkrun locations in the Western Sydney region.
“Our ultimate goal is to develop five new ‘legacy’ parkrun locations in key areas in Western Sydney,” said Amelia Hansen, strategy and development manager at RunWest. “We are well on the way to achieving that mission. It is not just about event day; we are committed to improving the health and wellbeing of the community longer term.”
On hearing the news that the third milestone had been reached Tim Oberg, CEO of parkrun Australia said: “We are so excited with this news and that means Athletics Australia is going to fund the launch of three new parkrun locations in Western Sydney.”
At RunWest, parkrunners are encouraged to join together as a community and enjoy the 12Km race together. Parkrunners will even have their own dedicated start wave and a designated ‘parkrun Party Finish Zone’ after the race at WestHQ.
